Water Softeners

A water softener uses salt to remove minerals and odours from hard water (usually calcium and magnesium). Water softener systems use resin beads that attract and attach sodium ions in the softener tank. Pumps push hard water through the resin beads, exchanging hardness ions with sodium ions, softening the water. Having hard water in your home can affect the lifespan of any water appliance due to the excess of calcium and magnesium. A common side effect of having hard water in your home is dryness of skin or hair. If you’re unhappy with the taste of your tap water there is a good chance you’re unhappy with the taste of chlorine (city water is cleaned with chlorine). You can pair a softener with a chlorine filter to improve the taste of tap water.
