A 2 Stage furnace is the most common furnace today. A 2-stage unit will have a gas valve that can burn natural gas/propane at two different speeds. This will keep the temperature of your home more consistent. Ex. The first time you turn the unit on, it will work at full capacity to get your home to your desired temperature, after which, the unit will operate at 40-50% of it’s full capacity to maintain circulation and your desired temperature. These units are typically between 95-96% efficient.
